Welcome to EDOT.

Updated: Aug 31

Welcome and thank you for joining us! We are a growing community of students, scholars, and education experts who are committed to reimagining the English postsecondary degree and making it more accessible.

English Degree of Tomorrow (EDOT) started as the brainchild of two optimistic English PhD students whose idealism was met with the realities of a post-pandemic academic landscape. We had seen the value of our English undergraduate degrees in our professional and personal lives but were surrounded by (rightfully) jaded or out-right dismissive rhetoric about arts and humanities education. How could we justify our aspirations to family members, friends, or even colleagues?

This question is not a new one: independently funded projects and many university initiatives have poured resources into English undergraduate career development and articulating the degree’s relevancy and value. However, these projects are often disparate, their results not widely disseminated. We’ve had countless conversations online, in coffee shops and classrooms, at conferences, and with faculty across institutions. We have found a resounding desire to build community and think together about the challenges we are all facing. Enter EDOT.

EDOT serves as a collaborative platform where we can centralize conversations that are already happening and resources that are already being designed. We hope to bring people together to find creative solutions and translate the value of the English degree to diverse students, empowering them to embark on innovative career paths.

What do you imagine?

Write in with your ideas. We’re looking for guest blog writers, interview guests, and anything else you might propose.

We look forward to working with you!
